Joey Chestnut wins record 16th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
Long live the King!
Joy Chestnut, the reigning champion of the world’s finest competitive eaters, won a record-breaking 16th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
The crowd cried out “Joy!” as the 39-year-old consumed 62 hot dogs and buns in just ten minutes. The event took held on Coney Island, in front of Nathan’s Famous Restaurant.
“I’m in awe. “It’s as if I haven’t eaten anything,” Chestnut said in the post.
His victory comes after surviving the prospect of cancelling this year’s competition owing to a passing storm in Brooklyn.
The organisers first cancelled the programme, but eventually changed their mind and held the match two hours later. Chestnut was noticeably unhappy by the program’s delay, but he spent time among the excited crowd until he was summoned back to the platform amid cheers.
Within two minutes, the champion had surpassed some of the world’s top eaters by consuming 22 hot dogs and established a new world record pace throughout the majority of the tournament.
The day’s weather and the rush and bustle, however, undoubtedly dampened Chestnut’s already substantial appetite, preventing him from breaking his personal best of 76 frankfurters. “The delay did not help me. “I eventually hit a brick wall,” Chestnut acknowledged.
“I felt a bit off, but I’ll figure it out. I didn’t break the record, but I’ll come back next year and find a way to do it,” he said. Chestnut, known as “Joey,” has been the number one competitive eater in the world according to Major League Eating since 2007, winning all of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contests since then.
“I was tired. My jaw got drained rapidly for some reason. The timing of mine was a little wrong.”
“I felt somewhat strange but I’m going to work it out.” “I didn’t break the record this year, but I’ll come back and attempt again,” he said.

Chestnut was up against the world’s fourth-ranked competitive eater, Massachusetts’s Nick Wehry, and Japan’s top eater, Max Suzuki.
Jeffrey Esper of Arizona, the world’s second-ranked competitive eater, finished second with 49 hot dogs, while Australian James Webb finished third with 47 franks.
Despite controlling the competition by eating 13 hot dogs, Chestnut expressed his disappointment.
