Listen to Travis Scott’s latest release, “Utopia” now!
The long-awaited fourth studio album from Travis Scott, “Utopia,” was eventually released on Friday, July 28th, via Cactus Jack and Epic Records. This album was released five years after Scott’s previous studio album, “Astroworld,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and included the number one single on the Billboard Hot 100, “Sicko Mode,” which not only became Scott’s first number one hit but also earned him an RIAA-certified diamond single two years after its release. The 2019 Grammy Awards also included “Astroworld” as a nominee for Best Rap Album.
Prior to “Utopia,” he released the lead track “Co-Pop” with Bad Bunny. The unique webcast event in the Middle East had to be cancelled owing to “complex production issues,” as Scott was originally scheduled to play songs from the new album at the Pyramids in Giza, Egypt. Travis Scott had been hinting at the album’s release date on Instagram by releasing images of each of the album’s five covers, all of which were taken by Peter Hugo and Christina Nagele. Along with working with Beyoncé on “Delresto (Ecstasy),” he also collaborates with Drake on “Meltdown,” Bon Iver on “My Eyes,” and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk on “Modern Jam.” The album also has contributions from A$AP Rocky, Future, Kid Cudi, SZA, and other artists. The rapper had intended to debut new music from “Utopia” during a live-streamed concert at the Pyramids in Giza, Egypt, but a turbulent week prevented that from happening. But on July 26, just eight days after denying reports of a cancellation because of “complex production issues,” Scott’s performance attempt was called off. The concert has not yet been postponed.
Travis Scott’s new album is his first full-length release since the Astroworld Festival 2021, which was marred by a “mass casualty incident” that left eight people dead and several more wounded. Scott no longer faces any criminal charges as a result of the grand jury’s decision, but Live Nation Entertainment and he continue to be named in several lawsuits.
The night before the event, he released two new songs ahead of the festival. Scott’s final studio album was released after “Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight” in 2016 and “Astroworld” in 2018. “Jackboys,” a collection of musicians under Scott’s Cactus Jack Records label, was released in 2020.
