In the world of musical dynasties, there’s a new kid on the block, and he’s only 2½ years old. Meet Rennie David Foster, the son of the power couple Katharine McPhee Foster and David Foster, who seems to have inherited the musical gene from his talented parents.
David Foster, a renowned musician at the age of 74, proudly shared a video on his Instagram showcasing his toddler son’s impressive drumming skills. In the video, young Rennie sits behind a personalized red drum kit, sporting black headphones, and effortlessly delivers a drum solo. The little maestro keeps perfect time with the music while his dad looks on from a nearby couch, brimming with pride.
“❗️ Drumming into the new year ❗️#still2yearsold,” Foster enthusiastically captioned the video, emphasizing that Rennie’s drumming prowess is exceptional even at such a tender age.
This isn’t the first time the Fosters have shared glimpses of their son’s musical talents. In October, Katharine McPhee Foster, the 39-year-old Smash star, posted a video of Rennie playing drums barefoot, wearing noise-canceling headphones and effortlessly keeping the beat. With a touch of humor, she teased, “POV: your 2-year-old baby shows off his drumming skills,” suggesting that Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker might have some competition.
Speaking about their son’s musical inclination in October 2022, the American Idol alum and her husband shared their thoughts with PEOPLE. David Foster remarked, “We think [he’ll be musical], but we don’t know. Kids, strangely, will do something for a while and then it’ll amaze you and then they just drop it and they don’t do it anymore.”
The Fosters remain unsure if Rennie’s drumming passion is a fleeting interest or a long-term commitment. David Foster humorously added, “I’d rather he have a tennis racket in his hand than a drumstick, to tell you the truth.” However, he acknowledged that if Rennie does pursue drumming, it would be great, especially considering the little one’s fascination with watching their drummer, JR Robinson.
In a previous Entertainment Tonight interview, Katharine McPhee Foster reiterated their awe at Rennie’s musical abilities, stating, “It makes sense that he’d be musical. He’s certainly obsessed with the drums! Or imaginary drums, for that matter.”
While the couple is proud of their son’s musical inclinations, they remain uncertain about his future path in the music industry. As David Foster humorously pointed out, the journey is still too early to predict, comparing it to other families where talented children may not necessarily follow in their parents’ footsteps.
In the meantime, the internet eagerly awaits more drumming performances from the adorable Rennie Foster, the 2-year-old drum prodigy who might just be the next big thing in the world of music.
